On the "Group Classmates Photo Page 2", I have a little info that I thought some of you would be interested in. After all the Sam Houston pictures, there is the Robert E. Lee 6th Grade Elementary class picture. On the fifth row the last person is listed as Shelly Foil. That is not quite right - her name is Sandy Foyil. We were best friends in grade school and junior high. She lived across the street from me. She moved to Dallas about 9th grade but we have remained friends thru all of these years. Every hurricane season I get an invitation to come stay during any storm for me, my family and even my dogs! Now that is a real friend! Also, the picture of the Lee Elem. play around 1960 or '61 - I remember that play - I think I was in that picture - but can't locate me (I have changed). But, the little blonde boy in the booth on the left hand side of Ford Hightower. I will never forget him - he was always trapping my ponytail between desks!
I just checked the "Remember When" update. The one from Joel Levy got me to thinking. He wondered about a 4th grade teacher - one of the fourth grade teachers was Ms. Poole. I had her and all I remember about that year was Egypt and King Tut. I think Ms. Locke was second grade, I think Ms. Bradley was third, Ms. Brazil was fifth Grade and Ms. Stephens was sixth grade. Wow - my 2 brain cells are exhausted!

As I drove past the old TJ parking lot this weekend ... I remember Coach Vosberg "trying" to teach me to drive (9th grade??) ... I remember I made him so mad ... He was always hitting the dash board!!!

House parties were the way to go when we were younger. They were also safe and inexpensive. My Travis Elementary school friends celebrated my 12th birthday by spending the day at Lakeview Swimming Pool (notice the sun tans) and then coming over to my house for food, fun, and of course, dancing in our bobby sox to the latest records by Connie Frances, Chubby Checker, Bobby Vinton, etc.

I remember when we started at TJ in the fall of 1965. I thought that a class in typing wouldn't be too hard. I discovered the first day when I sat at my desk and found a manual typewritter there and someone had erased all the letters on the keys. Wow!!! What had I gotten myself into? My fingers were sooo rigid I could break pencils with them (as a show of strength, I guess). Did you ever hate a class so much that you would start to hate the class you had before that hated class? Well, I really liked PE. The grade that you got in the typing class was determined by how many words per minute you could type with five errors or less. Just when you thought you typed good ONLY five typos, a grader would find the SIXTH ONE, and you were shot down. Each six week period, the grade for a "C" would increase in words per minute required. So, Mr. Copeland would keep me from my much deserved "B"! Another thing that didn't help the curve was some GIRL that sat in the back of the room. She had fingers of silk that could dance over that keyboard with the skills of a surgeon. I was told that she also played the piano. It didn't seem legal that she should have been in MY typing class. The typing class textbook must have been purchased from G.I. Surplus. Springtime finally arrived, the school year ended, and I PASSED Typing 1.
